The puz file extension is used by two software programs. The first program that uses the .puz file extension is Microsoft Publisher, a desktop publishing application with an emphasis on page layout and design. Microsoft Publisher competes with the Adobe InDesign and Adobe InCopy software packages in the desktop publishing program market. Unlike the aforementioned Adobe products, Microsoft Publisher does not provide built in copy editing and XML story board support. The puz file extension is used for Microsoft Publisher's Pack and Go feature, which is somewhat similar to the Preflight feature that is found in Adobe InDesign.

I have to admit I'm no computer geek. When something goes wrong, I usually have to call someone to fix it and it costs me a lot of money. When my computer started to experience random freezes, I just used Regtask and now it works normally again.
David G.
My computer is 5 years old and runs extremely slow now. I was a bit sceptical about using Regtask, but just decided to give it a shot in the end and it worked out fantastically for me.

The Pack and Go feature is used when a user wants to package a publication created in Microsoft Publisher and either move it from one computer to another, or prepare said files for transfer to a commercial printing service. The Pack and Go wizard used in Microsoft Publisher compresses all of the files within the publication and adds a .puz file extension. Included within the compressed files are a Readme.txt file, plus an Unpack.exe file that is used to decompress the packed files.

More Info Regarding File Extension Puz
To pack a publication created in Microsoft Publisher, simply follow the steps outlined below:
. start up the Microsoft Publisher software, and then open the publication that you wish to use the Pack and Go feature on.
. Locate the File menu, and then select Pack and Go. Afterwards, click on the option Take to Another Computer to activate the Pack and Go wizard.
. A dialog box will appear asking you to select the location for saving your files. Specify where you want the packed publication files to appear on your hard drive and then click Next.
. Another dialog box will appear asking you if you want to include fonts and graphics in the packed publication files. Click to choose the options you wish to use and then click Next.
. When the Pack my Publication dialog box appears, click Finish. The compressed files should appear as "Packedxx.puz" files. The "xx" represents the number of the packed file, as there may be more than one file produced by the Pack and Go process.
. If you want to pack the publication for processing at a commercial printing service, just find the Pack and Go option within the File menu, and then click Take to a Commercial Printing Service and follow the above steps.
In order to unpack these files, the Unpack.exe file that is included with the compressed files must be used. To perform this procedure, follow the steps as shown below:
. double click on the drive or folder that contains the packed Microsoft Publisher Pack and Go files, and then double click Unpack.exe.
. Type the path to the folder where you wish to save the decompressed files, then click OK. You can also use the Browse feature to select a folder to store the decompressed files and then click OK.
. When the procedure is finished and the files are unpacked, click OK to complete the process.
Always be careful when executing an exe file, as it always holds the potential of being a method for a harmful computer virus to infect your computer system. Never run an Unpack.exe file that comes from an unknown or untrusted source.
The second program that uses the .puz file extension is the BrainsBreaker jigsaw puzzle game. This game allows players to create an infinite number of puzzles simply by using the images stored on their computer computer and also allows for other players to download and trade pre-made puzzles. The .puz file extension is used internally by the game in order to save various data and game information.
